Research Interests

My research is directed toward the use of hyperspectral remote sensing for geological applications with the specific aim of use geostatistical approaches to integrate airborne and field data into geologic models. Together with my staff and PhD researchers we develop algorithms to combine spatial and spectral information, to couple field and image spectral data, to mathematically and physically integrate various geoscience data sets (e.g, remote sensing, geophysical and geochemical field and airborne/spaceborne data with pre-existing thematic data sets) for a better understanding of geological processes. Emphasis is on resource (mineral, oil and gas) exploration and related environmental aspects. Van der Meer has published over 100 articles in peer reviewed journals, is author of two books, has graduated 6 PhD candidates and has 11 ongoing PhD projects.
